A small starting guide
A simple session for exploring textiles and quiet details around the home, with room for your own observations.
A modest beginning
Keep a notebook and a measuring tape nearby and begin with folded linen. Choose a small question about textiles and quiet details around the home rather than trying to cover the whole subject at once.
Start by listing what the corner needs to do. Mark the route through it and the objects that must remain easy to reach. An arrangement should support an ordinary action such as reading, writing or setting down a cup. Try the plan with existing objects before deciding that something new is needed.
A five-step session

Make the note your own
Look at the room from the position where it is actually used. Notice glare, awkward reaches and surfaces that collect unrelated objects. Move one piece and live with the change before revising everything. A quick before-and-after sketch keeps the purpose of the arrangement clearer than a list of decorative rules.
Choose a first page
A folded blanket gives you a concrete exercise. You can also browse the whole journal and begin with the subject closest to hand.
